Since about January of this year (2012) I have been researching a lot of different things regarding fitness and nutrition. I made changes here and there and now I am finding out what works for me as I've become more and more fit. Here are some of the changes I've made.
- I cut out all sugary drinks. I use to be heavy on Dr. Pepper. Once I stopped drinking sugary drinks and made the switch to black coffee and green tea (plus tons of water of course) things started to change dramatically. I lost 10lbs, felt better and didn't feel the need to load up on sugary stuff as much.
- I started adding workout consistently. It started with pushups here and there, then went to the Wii Fit for some cardio. Then I decided to do the Insanity workout. While doing that I started counting calories and shifted my diet into complex carbs, protein protein protein, and good fats.
- Post Insanity I was 40lbs lighter but didn't have a lot of muscle. I decided to try the Stronglifts 5x5 program (March) and I'm still working on that now.
- Now I'm still lifting and eating a lot (mostly healthy). This time around I'm trying to slowly gain lean muscle mass while minimizing fat gain.
- Sleep, sleep, and more sleep. Going to bed at 9pm sucks when you have people that want to hang out or talk after, but the greater good for me is being healthy and having energy throughout the day.
There are more changes but those are just some I've made.
